Does your baking genie seem to magically appear during the holidays? Do you morph into a chef-extraordinaire this time of year, amazing your friends and family with your culinary skills? Probably why it’s so easy to add those holiday pounds, right? You’re baking 24/7 and delighting even the most fussiest of palates. Why, you’re on fire–leaving a streak of flour dust and colorful candy sparkles in your wake!
While I’d love to say I join you in this adventure, I don’t. I garden. I shop. I don’t bake. But my daughter does and she’s quite the wizard when it comes to creating all things sweet. From chocolate truffles to peanut butter kiss cookies, my favorite is her cranberry-orange bread. Cranberries are in season now and can be found in abundance on your grocer’s shelves. I submit these ruby-red “jewels” should not be limited to cocktails and turkey sauce, but instead, be baked into a moist, delicious breakfast bread.
We make three loaves at a time and deliver them to the neighbors whose eyes light up at the sight of us ascending their front steps. Some devour it the minute they receive the bread. Others freeze it for enjoyment on Christmas morning. Others consume it like dessert. Us? We snack on the loaves throughout the day.
And talk about easy, this Cranberry-Orange Bread recipe is just that, easy. But it must be followed exactly as written. Enjoy! And do share the wealth. It’s Christmas!
