School Garden - follow the kids as they grow!

School Garden Success Stories!

School gardens are more fun than a bucket of worms and a fishing pole.

Not only do you get to “play” outdoors, kids can chase bugs, play in the dirt, squirt water and eat. What’s not to love?

Oh, yeah. They also provide kids with a wealth of learning opportunities. Play, eat, learn. I call that a win-win! Why, just ask any of these students and they’ll tell you the same thing. School gardens ROCK.

Rule number one: Grow what you’ll eat. Then, toss in a few extra crops because kids will eat what they grow.

And that’s one of the main reasons for this venture. Learn where your food comes from and eat healthy!

Rule number two: Work together. This is a team sport! Everyone has a chance at helping, from soil work to irrigation.

Dirt not your thing? No worries. Just ask these girls. Hydroponic towers will grow food just as well–without the mess!

Rule number three: Share the abundance. Farmer’s markets are the perfect venue to share your school garden success stories (not to mention raise some money for next year’s program!).

Those second graders sold out of their produce in less than 2 hours. WOW. Talk about sustainability–these kids will be able to support their garden program for years to come! That’s what I call success. For all ages. The school garden programs in our community begin with kindergartners and continue through their senior year.
