Students are doing great things with their school gardens and what better way to encourage them than to showcase their efforts for the community than with a school garden farmer’s market? As taxpayers, it’s important to know exactly where our dollars are going, and these kids are a prime example of what’s right in our schools! Not only are they learning valuable lessons about the food they eat, they’re incorporating school subjects such as science, math, botany and the environment.
From elementary to high school, our students are digging nature and producing some amazing results. They’re also learning about finance, merchandising and hard work in the process. Win-win!
Large or small, local farmer’s markets are a great way to engage our kids. Students benefit from the hands-on learning experience, taste-testing the healthy foods they grow, and learning the impact of food waste on their communities.
The agricultural science department is currently building a greenhouse for these lucky high school students, including a tilapia tank. Very cool. For information on hosting a school garden farmer’s market in your community, contact me and I’ll help get you started!
