My pineapples are finally popping! Woohoo–what a great day to be a gardener! Not only have they sprouted, but look at these beauties. Beautifully formed to plump perfection beckoning my palate with their promise of juicy fruit.

Remember when they were just tops in the ground? I posted this photo (shown below) back in July 2015. Babes in a sea of mulch, they were, and now look at them. Granted, this process has been a lengthy one.

We’re talking years, here. In fact, I was told by a friend this pineapple (shown below) took 4 years to grow. It’s about where mine are in size, though mine are 5 years old. I think one of the colder winters took a toll on my plants, but as I’m no expert on the matter, I can’t be certain.

I am looking forward to the harvest! My friend also informed me that the first fruit might not be the sweetest and to keep growing. Okay. I can do that! Pineapple is sweet, healthy and oh-so-delectable. I think it’s worth the wait! After, these plants require zero effort from me.

I do love easy gardening! Not to mention summer is calling… Stay-tuned for my experiment in sun hemp cover crops.
