For those of you who enjoy cocktail hour, garden-inspired cocktails are a great way to utilize those fruits and vegetables you’re growing. Sure, we love them cooked and seasoned, but why not in our beverages? I mean, this fall, rather than reach for a classic bourbon and water, why not add a “green” twist to it? While I can’t claim these drinks are healthy, they are delicious!
At least according to my crew. Recently, I hosted a cocktail “tasting” party to experiment with a variety of garden ingredients, and we fine-tuned the blends until we had some winners. Here are some of our favorites…
Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita
One of the favorites was this spicy gem; the Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita. Crafted from freshly-squeezed limes, cucumbers and peppers with a touch of agave nectar, this drink was awesome. The tequila had a slight kick from being infused with jalapenos and cucumber which paired well with tart lime.
The key was allowing the jalapenos and cucumber to steep in tequila for 10-15 minutes prior to serving. For those who don’t prefer the spice, you can easily mellow this one with more agave or sparkling water.
Rosemary Lemon Vodka Spritzers
Vodka lends itself well to just about any mixer, so why not toss in a few sprigs of rosemary and slices of lemon? This duo is commonly combined across the menu, and your beverage are no different. Rosemary Lemonade is one of my favorites. Enter vodka, club soda, a touch of honey, and you have yourself a garden-inspired cocktail!
This was a definite crowd-pleaser. And why not? Rosemary provides a natural mental boost, putting everyone in a good mood! I do love a multi-tasker.
Orange Apple Bourbon
With the crisp nip of fall in the air, this bourbon cocktail has “warm and comfy” written all over it. Fall means apple harvest and since we’re in Florida, let’s go ahead and add some orange for good measure. Cinnamon is good for the heart, and we do want to be healthy, so rim that glass with a generous ring of spice. Absolutely delicious!
