Move over Joanna Gaines, this family is taking the farmhouse décor theme to a whole new level. Country is cool. Period. If the mega-success of Chip & Joanna Gaines Fixer Upper TV show didn’t prove that to America, I don’t know what will. Warm and cozy interiors beckon all types as they appeal to our need for community. Wide open pastures and green spaces speak to our desire for freedom and our quest to express it.
Yet country living is more than attractive plaques with endearing phrases and naturally-textured accessories that compliment our furnishings. It’s about home and hearth, yes, but it’s about family, faith, and independence. To me, nothing says independence more than a garden and hen house!
And not just any old henhouse, these girls have it made with some pretty fancy lighting! Spoiled rotten, is what I see.
As are the homeowners. Think of it…you wake with dawn, stroll out to the visit with the “girls” grabbing a few eggs for breakfast while you’re there. On the way back into the house, you pluck a few leaves of kale to toss with them for a delicious Kale Scramble breakfast. Skillet potatoes, anyone?
Once your belly’s full, the real fun begins. On the farm, the family enjoys tractor rides over the field, tending to the vegetable garden, clipping flowers, pruning hedges… What’s not to love?
Oh, make that a bike ride for the little ones! There’s something for everyone on the family homestead.
When the sun goes down, the end to another glorious day, grab a drink and gather around the granddaddy oak tree, light courtesy of a solar-powered antique chandelier.
As a gardener, I do appreciate creativity when it comes to landscape design. Perhaps this will provide a little inspiration for your neck of the woods?
