Cabbage and peas are friends in the garden. Cabbage are heavy feeders and need lots of nitrogen to produce their big beautiful leaves. Legumes help “fix” nitrogen into the soil which helps make it readily available to the plants. Awesome.
However, cabbage does not like to be near pole beans. Or strawberries. So keep those plants away from your cabbage.
But definitely situate them close to your peas. I created a trellis overhead of my cabbage and it’s working out quite well. In Florida, we can have wildly fluctuating temperatures during the “winter” months and cabbage doesn’t prefer the heat.
This trellis of sugar snap peas shades them throughout the day while still ensuring enough sunlight for them to grow. The support is imperative for the peas, as they love to climb! I only planted three peas at the base of each trellis side. As you can see, peas are quite EASY to grow.
