Ever looked for the perfect gift for the gardener in your life? It can be tricky proposition, particularly if you’re not a gardener yourself. What do they need (other than a shovel and gloves)? What would they appreciate?
Over the last few years, I’ve come to have an opinion on this subject! What could I use? What do I need? What would be really cool to have that I can’t justify buying for myself?
Well let me tell you, it all begins with root storage. Yep. A bin specially designed for storing my harvest of carrots and potatoes because unlike most of my veggies, these babies won’t stay fresh in the refrigerator for long. Carrots become soft and potatoes…well, they like it dark and cold but not THAT cold. So when I saw this root vegetable storage bin in the Gardener’s Supply Catalog, I whipped out pen and paper and began writing. “Dear Santa…”
This thing looks awesome! And I’ve read that storing carrots in damp sand is a great technique but rather than placing them in an old bucket or box, why not use this cute bin? It will do the job and look good doing it. Perfect. For more gift ideas, simply leaf through this magazine and you’ll find a ton to choose from.
And who can ever have enough dish towels? Not this gardener and I especially love garden-inspired weaves like this one found at Crate and Barrel. Nothing like the rich colors nature to remind me of my glorious garden outdoors or for my Arctic Amigos north of the Florida border, something to hold onto until spring. Williams-Sonoma is another retailer with some gorgeous garden-themed towels.
For new and experienced gardeners alike, a garden journal makes a wonderful gift idea. It can be as simple as a blank paged journal where they can record their progress or one with climate and growing detail printed right alongside the pages for their notes like this one created by Mimi Luebbermann, a garden journal can be indispensable for anyone truly interested in learning as they grow.
Nematodes get your squash last spring? Worms devour your tomatoes? Make a note of what you did and whether it worked and get ahead of the problem next time! No sense in making the same mistake twice.
I mean, gardening is fun but it’s also work and wasted energy is NOT on my list of things to do. I’m growing produce out here and the more the merrier but I will admit that things can slip through the old my memory cells from time to time. 🙂
But if none of these appeal to you, how some pretty note cards? We can all use them and what better than garden-inspired? Vera Bradley is well-known for her lovely patterns but they also come in the form of note cards. This Hope Garden is one of my favorites, but she has an incredible assortment and variety of color. You can also stop by Cardstore.com for a host of different floral, nature and whimsical designs of all kinds.
So whether it happens to be for Christmas, birthday or just a special “thank you” gift you seek for that gardener on your list, you might begin with a few of these ideas. One of them is sure to bring a smile to their face.
Good luck and happy shopping! And if you stumble upon any great gift ideas? Be sure to stop back by and share. We’re always in the market for fun garden stuff here at BloominThyme. 🙂
